This baby painted turtle (Chrysemys picta) is stuck upside-down on the dirt. Somehow he had gotten on his back while the mud dried to hold him fast. Who knows how long it was stuck this way. Pulled it off the dirt to free it. Second picture is of this turtle set right side up. The little turtle was put in a nearby ditch and seemed none the worse for his extended inversion.
