

The first picture is wood betony (
Pedicularis canadensis) amongst a colony of shooting-star (
Dodecatheon meadia). The second picture shows flowers of the same colony of shooting-star. This is at the top of a north-facing slope in Martell Forest, Tippecanoe County. Shooting-star seems to like being at the high ground at the top of a slope but not the high ground where it's flat. Maybe it gets more sun here. The shooting-star habitat is the same way at Clegg Gardens. These pictures were taken April 26, 2009.
